COMMITTEES
Spotlight Programs Board is composed of an executive board and committee members who help plan and execute events. The board includes executive director and six other directors works to fulfill the mission of addressing the needs and interests of the diverse student body by providing social, cultural, educational and entertainment events on campus. Each board member oversees a designated committee. Below is a description of each committee and the type of events that they are responsible for. This department also oversees the student-run Cinefest Film Theater and art exhibits in the Student Center East Gallery Lounge.
Arts
This committee, led by the Graduate Administrative Assistant for the Arts, is responsible for presenting inspiring elements of the arts to the Georgia State student body. The committee will manage the monthly exhibits on display in the Student Center Gallery Lounge and conduct art-focused programs. They will coordinate efforts with the Rialto Center for the Arts to let students know of events happening on Georgia State’s campus. Potential events include, but are not limited to, Gallery Lounge art exhibits, student art competitions and more.
Celebrations & Collaborations
This committee provides support in the programmatic efforts of events centered on the recognition of a certain time of year. Examples include Black History Month, Pride Month, International Week, Women's History Month, Latin Heritage Month and more. To maximize programming, these events are often implemented in collaboration with other university departments or organizations, such as LASSO, Black Student Achievement, Civic Engagement and the Multicultural Center.
Daytime
This committee is responsible for planning and implementing events consisting of home-grown activities, plaza performances, novelties and holiday-themed events over the lunch hour and other parts of the day. The main focus of this committee is to plan a wide range of activities that vary in size and budget, but ultimately work to build community on campus. Potential events include Casino Day, Color N’ Chill, Grocery Bingo and Petting Zoo.
Entertainment
This committee plans a variety of events centered on the live entertainment experience. This includes anything from talent showcases and DJ competitions to game shows and block parties. Programs range from intimate and interactive to large-scale and immersive. Examples of events include Last DJ Standing, Georgia State's Got Talent, magic show, Pop-Up Shops and Welcome Back Comedy Show.
Homecoming
This committee focuses solely on Homecoming festivities. They are responsible for the programming that occurs during homecoming week, such as Spirit Plaza, Golf Cart Parade, Good Morning GSU and the Block Party. Additionally, they are instrumental in the Royal Court selection process and ensuring that each member is fulfilling their duties during their term.
