Governing Councils
Greek organizations on campus are governed by one of four councils: Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhellenic Council. In addition to the four governing bodies, the Greek Council, comprised of the individual chapter presidents, is the voice of the over 30 nationally-recognized organizations on campus.

National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. (NPHC)
On May 10, 1930, on the campus of Howard University in Washington D.C., the NPHC was formed with the following charter members: Omega Psi Phi and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternities and Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta sororities. In 1931, Alpha Phi Alpha and Phi Beta Sigma fraternities joined the council. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority joined in 1937 and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity completed the list of member organizations in 1997.
The stated purpose and mission of the organization in 1930 was
"Unanimity of thought and action as far as possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities, and to consider problems of mutual interest to its member organizations."

Early in 1937, the organization was incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois and became known as The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated.
Georgia State is currently home to six of the organizations in the "Divine Nine."

Order of Omega is an international honors society that initiates the top 3% of fraternity and sorority scholars and leaders on college campuses across the U.S. and Canada.
The purpose of Order of Omega:
- To recognize those fraternity men and sorority women who have attained a high standard of leadership in inter-Greek activities, to encourage them to continue along this line, and to inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment.
- To bring together outstanding fraternity men and sorority women to create an organization that will help to mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate fraternity affairs.
- To bring together members of the faculty, alumni, and student members of the institution’s fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness.
To qualify for membership, a fraternity man or sorority woman must be in junior or senior standing, rank academically above the All-Fraternity & Sorority Average, and be in good standing with their organization. Applications are accepted every semester, and each applicant must demonstrate their exemplary character, academic excellence, commitment to service, and servant leadership abilities on their application to be considered for membership.
