EDUCATION & WORKSHOPS
Cultures, Communities & Inclusion (CCI) offers educational programs that are interactive and aim to create an inclusive campus climate where individuals and communities feel welcome, valued, affirmed and respected. These activities are delivered in the form of presentations, workshops, lectures/speakers and discussion-based programs designed to educate and engage students on various topics. In partnership with several key offices and academic units, CCI offers the following to meet this mission:
Community Conversations:
These discussions will address cultural conversations affecting societal needs while drawing connections between multiculturalism and diversity and everyday events and experiences that range from the personal (i.e., campus events) to the national and the global. The formats for discussion forums will vary, from small lunch time gatherings to larger campus wide events.
Cultures, Communities & Inclusion (CCI) Ambassadors:
CCI Ambassadors are students who take an active role in educational, cultural, social, and leadership opportunities for students on campus as it pertains to inclusion, placemaking, and intercultural engagement. The overall goal of the program is to assist with engaging cultures and bridge across difference. Ambassadors are responsible for facilitating and implementing cultural programs, educational workshops, and supporting new student orientation.
Workshops and Class Presentations:
CCI's trainings & workshops are designed to engage, equip, challenge and support the Georgia State community in being a more inclusive campus. Our goal is to encourage emerging leaders to be agents of change on our campus, in communities and the world beyond by increasing awareness, knowledge, and skills. Some opportunities include In the (STATE) Zone Awareness and Ally trainings, Allyship 101 and so many more
Community Conversations
These discussions will address contemporary issues affecting societal needs while drawing connections between diversity, everyday events, and experiences that range from the personal (i.e., campus events) to the national global. Pop Talks
Pop in once a month on Wednesday for discussions about pop culture, national/global news, trigger-warning topics and/or anything related to diversity and inclusion. This peer-facilitated dialogue series provides a space to engage in critical thinking, explore diverse identities, and contribute to the marketplace of ideas. Just bring your topics and a willingness to think critically about the world!
Storytellers
“Storytellers” is a cultural conversation series that has a focus of education and cultural humility. This intimate conversation invites community leaders to discuss a range of topics including their work, ambitions and personal lives with a moderator. “Storytellers” allows for participants to engage with and learn the perspectives of community leaders.
Talk Tuesday
“Talk Tuesday” is a series of workshop conversations that provides a forum that amplifies the voices of marginalized and underrepresented communities around various topics.
The series plans to serve as a catalyst to:
- promote, celebrate, and increase cultural awareness at Georgia State
- encourage cross-cultural dialogue & engagement and
- advance global/intercultural fluency and cultural humility.
Each workshop topic is uniquely designed and expertly facilitated to create an environment for authentic conversation, varying viewpoints and cultural exchange. Selected guest speakers help to shift personal paradigms and facilitate learning and understanding through their scholarship, service and storytelling. The topics and speakers presented do not represent the views of the CCI or Georgia State, but are intended to reflect contemporary social concerns. All are welcome to take part in these cultural conversations.

GENERAL DUTIES
- General office duties—day-to-day operation of CCI, receptionist duties, data entry, creating brochures, flyers, filing, photocopying, collating, tabling, promotion on social media, and office organization
- Greet visitors/answer telephones, determine customer needs, and direct calls/visitors to appropriate office professional
- Carry out designated opening and closing procedures.
- Maintain the physical spaces to ensure the resources are accessible to all students.
- Regularly check in with professional staff and graduate assistants to complete assigned tasks via email, Teams, phone, and 1:1 coaching meetings.
- Act as a lead liaison between CCI and registered student organizations that align with the mission of CCI.
- Act as a lead liaison between CCI and GSU departments
- Lead one or more functional areas (e.g., media & marketing, programming, education, operations, etc).
- Assist with CCI events by taking part in planning, promotion, set up, check-in, implementation, and breakdown.
- Plan and facilitate programs, outreach initiatives, and workshops
- Complete a passion project and portfolio by conclusion of academic year
- Provide support to Student Orientation and Family Engagement (ex. Panther Connect, Big Blue Bash, etc.)
- Lead Culture Café series
- Co-facilitate CCI Ambassador Program workshops
- Co-lead and/or serve on ad-hoc committees
- Stay well-informed about CCI, disseminating necessary information to the campus community.
- Demonstrate a professional attitude that reflects the mission and goals of CCI and Georgia State University.
- Employ punctuality by arriving on time and leaving when designated.
- Attend bi-weekly team meetings and 1:1 coaching meetings to discuss department/project updates.
- Engage in mandatory trainings and designated professional development opportunities.
- Assessment support—evaluation data input, assist in identifying sources of scholarships, fellowships, and leadership opportunities for students. Co-facilitate focus groups
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
This position is only for currently enrolled Georgia State University students who qualify for federal work study! You must confirm with student financial services to see if you qualify.
CONDITIONS:
- Appointment
- The term of appointment runs from August 23, 2024 through April 28, 2025, excluding university holidays and the following academic recesses: Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break. The Student Assistant position begins with mandatory training that will take place on Friday, August 30, 2024. To be successful in your position, staff must attend the entire training from 9:00am - 5:00pm.
- Compensation
- Hourly wage of $12.00 for up to 20 hours each week

- Employment Hours
- Student Assistants will work up to 20 hours/week based on their award letter. Flexibility in scheduling is expected considering the position will require occasional evening and weekend duties, in which these hours will be incorporated into the overall hours for the week.
- Confidentiality
- As a Student Assistant you may be trusted with confidential information. Respect the privacy and confidentiality of all students and the University.
- Evaluation & Supervision
- Student Assistants will receive on-going training and supervision and be formally evaluated at the end of the fall and spring semesters. Position continuation is contingent upon successful performance.
- Outside Employment
- Student Assistants are permitted to work outside the University. SAs may work for other University departments on campus. However, the total number of hours worked on campus must never equate to more than 20 hours per week. Any additional employment must be communicated with the supervisor and cannot conflict with the expectations set for SAs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Students must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at GSU.
- Students must be enrolled at least half time. 6 credit hours for undergraduates and 5 credit hours for graduate students.
- Students must meet the minimum GPA requirement. 2.0 for undergraduates and 3.0 for graduate students.
- Students must be in good academic standing and making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Students may not work during scheduled class time – no exceptions!
- Participate in mandatory training and staff meetings.
- Certified as a CCI Ambassador

CCI General Workshops
Allyship 101
This workshop will help participants explore what it means to be an ally both in word and in action.
Circles of My Multicultural Self
In this interactive workshop, participants will have the opportunity to better understand their multicultural selves and the multicultural identities of others. Stereotypes are discussed and dismantled through statements that heal and empower us.
Cross the Line
This interactive, activity-based workshop focuses on the personal experiences of participants and examines how our trials and tribulations shape the people we are today. Empathy, connectedness and healing are at the core of this introspective workshop experience.
Off the Wall – A Workshop on Microaggressions
Microaggressions have been defined as brief everyday exchanges, often unintentional and automatic, that send negative messages to individuals because of their group/identity membership (i.e. due to race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, etc.). Participants of this session will examine different phrases to better understand their harm and identify ways to confront these microaggressions so that we create a more inclusive campus environment.

In the STATE Zone Trainings
- DESCRIPTION: an interactive workshop on allyship and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. In this workshop, you will learn the history, common vocabulary and lived experiences of LGTBQ+ communities and affirming practices.
