CULTURAL AWARENESS & COMMUNITY BUILDING
Cultural Awareness
CCI recognizes the significance of holding space to affirm the complexities of identities and celebrate the richness of cultural heritage, as well as the importance of examining and naming the ways that underrepresented communities have been marginalized in society, both historically and presently. We do not relegate any cultural heritage to only a single month. Rather, we acknowledge and appreciate cultural heritage every day with programs and services that support inclusion and belonging. This deliberate practice facilitates the university's strategic vision as a place for all. History and heritage months are essential to Georgia State’s efforts to foster a sense of belonging.
Panther Welcome Events
Panther Welcome is Georgia State's official welcome celebration to help you engage with the university. At the beginning of the fall and spring semesters, exciting programs and signature events are offered across our campuses, including "Ask Me" booths on each campus to help you navigate the first week of classes. You’ll meet members of your Panther family, unlock valuable resources and celebrate Georgia State’s culture and tradition. All Panther Welcome activities and other exciting opportunities for student engagement can be found on PIN.
Culture Café at the Intersection
Join us for free coffee, cocoa or tea, coupled with conversation about cultures, communities, and inclusion. Connect with others around identity and intercultural engagement. Bring a friend for a chance to win giveaways and prizes!
Culture Café on the Go
Stop by the Culture Café on the Go table each month to learn more information about upcoming events offered by Cultures, Communities, and Inclusion (CCI) departments and its campus partners.
History & Heritage Month Celebrations
What Are History & Heritage Months
- History & Heritage Months celebrate the customs, values, and traditions of different cultures, examining the issues and struggles of different communities as well as affirming their contributions to society. History & Heritage months are important in providing intentional space for teaching, learning and reflection. Each month, we celebrate the identities and histories of members of Georgia State’s global communities through vibrant performances, lectures and activities that celebrate our rich cultural diversity and help us understand our shared history.
