ABOUT US
Black Student Achievement serves as a liaison among other offices within the Division of Student Affairs and academic departments on topics related to African American students, faculty and staff.
Black Student Achievement provides university wide services and support programming in many areas, such as cultural enrichment, racial awareness, ethnicity, diversity, leadership training and organizational development. To achieve its goals, Black Student Achievement sponsors a number of academic, cultural and social events. Special interest programs address African American and other minority concerns. Black Student Achievement collaborates on many of their programs with other departments within the division in order to meet its goals.
Mission Statement
Promote quality services and programs related to the retention, progression and graduation of African Americans attending Georgia State by providing resources and advocating for their academic success, degree attainment, co-curricular involvement, cultural heritage and international and educational diversity. The primary focus of Black Student Achievement is to build a culture of care. Black Student Achievement's goals are to provide access, innovation and inclusion in all of our services.

C. Bernard McCrary, Director
Bernard is responsible for the overall mission of the office to promote quality services and programs related to the retention, progression and graduation of African Americans attending Georgia State University. He brings a diverse background in higher education experience having worked for two other University System of Georgia institutions.
Chazidy J. Register, Coordinator
Chaz is responsible for the interactive experience in the office through programming that centers around academic and social engagement. She has special interests in elevating the voices and stories of Black women and will specifically oversee Black Women’s Dialogue as well as lead the charge of engagement towards the Perimeter and Online campuses. She joined the office in December 2022 and brings a wealth of knowledge in higher education having previously worked for Georgia State University’s University Advisement Center.

Job Opportunities
Working in the Office of Black Student Achievement provides an opportunity to learn about cultural diversity and leadership and helps students become effective global citizens. Below are positions that may be available:
Work Study Position(s)
Undergraduate student assistants provide assistance at reception desk, assist with a variety of office tasks and develop multiple skills. Work study eligibility is determined through a student’s financial aid status.
Graduate Administrative Assistant(s) (GAAs)
Black Student Achievement has a small number of graduate administrative assistant positions each year, offering opportunities to graduate students to take leadership roles in programs and services. GAAs design and implement programs and facilitate classes, workshops and tutoring sessions. Any student accepted into a graduate program may be appointed as a GAA.
