Did you know that only 1 in 300 children in low-income areas around Atlanta have a book at home? At Georgia State, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to dream big and unlock their full potential. That's why we are excited to announce the launch of the Dream Big Book Drive, a community-wide initiative aimed at bringing the joy of reading to the young minds of Atlanta.
Why Donate? Research shows that having access to books at home significantly contributes to a child's academic success, including literacy and math skills. Beyond that, having regular access to books fosters vocabulary development, enhances attention spans, and even correlates with future job attainment. In fact, studies indicate that a child with a personal book collection is propelled 3.2 years further in their education journey.
How Can You Help? We invite you to join us in this meaningful cause by donating new or gently-used children's books! Your contribution can make a world of difference in a child's life, opening up doors to endless possibilities through the magic of storytelling.
Drop-off Locations: Donations are accepted at the Student Life Office on every campus and at the Student Center East information desk on the Atlanta Campus. Look for the Dream Big Book Drive collection boxes, and let's fill them with the gift of literacy!
Special Incentive: Free T-Shirt! As a token of our appreciation, if you donate 20 or more books, you will receive a free Dream Big Book Drive t-shirt! Wear it proudly, knowing that you've played a part in shaping a brighter future for the children of Atlanta.
Spread the Word! Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to join us in this endeavor. Together, we can make a significant impact on the lives of children who need it most.
We also encourage you to register now to attend the MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 15, 2024. We'll need volunteers to clean, repair, sort by reading level, organize and box the donated books for distribution. We need lots of volunteers to make sure our books are ready to go to the homes of little Panthers; it's going to be a fun day as we play music, laugh, and have lunch together while we work.
Let's come together as a community to turn the page on illiteracy and open doors to a world of imagination and knowledge for the children of Atlanta. Dream big, read big!
Thank you for your generosity and support!
