The office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is pleased to announce that Alpha Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. will be joining the community in Spring 2022 as the 12th organization on the Multicultural Greek Council!
Alpha Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. was founded on April 2, 1998, at the University of Georgia based on the principles of sisterhood, cultural diversity, and Asian interest. Alpha Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. was founded by Irene Chien, Young Jeon, Juliette Taylor, Jessica Yoo, Suzanne Yoo, Jasmine Yu, Sandra Chu, Debbie Kwon, Angela Lu, Lynn Nguyen, Anne See, and Anna Suh. The founders believed that a sorority should exist primarily to breach the barriers between separate cultural backgrounds, thereby promoting a sisterhood based on mutual respect and appreciation. They strongly believed that strength comes from the unity of all Asian students on campus.
The organization has 10 active chapters in Georgia, Texas, Maryland, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The chapter at Georgia State University will make this the 11th chapter for the organization, and the 2nd active chapter in the state of Georgia. Philanthropy is an essential part of Alpha Sigma Rho’s purpose as an organization. Currently, Alpha Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. supports National Ovarian Cancer Coalition as their national philanthropic effort. Since adopting this philanthropy in 2011, Alpha Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. has raised over $5,000 every September which is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
The fraternity and sorority community is excited to welcome Alpha Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc. in Spring 2022. They will be a valuable addition to the FSL community and campus as a whole. Any questions can be directed to the Fraternity and Sorority Life office at their email address or by phone at 404-413-1582.
