During the month of February, we take the time to celebrate the accomplishments, reflect on history, and preserve the culture and heritage of African Americans.
The Georgia State University community will be hosting several in-person and virtual events throughout the month. The kickoff event called, “Welcome to the Cookout: The Black History Month Celebration” will take place at Student Center East Ballroom on February 9, 2021.
The event is sponsored by the Multicultural Center, Black Student Achievement, and Latinx Student Services and Outreach with the theme of, “2021 Family Reunion: Celebrating Black Culture, Reviving our Roots.” Along with food, music, a Soul Train line, and round table discussions, games such as, “For the Culture,” similar to, “Black Card Revoked,” will be played. There will also be performances by Lucd from Panther Entertainment Group and Conscious Collective. The event will adhere to social distancing standards for the in-person event, and students can RSVP and access the online link at pin.gsu.edu.
