April is the last full month of Georgia State University’s spring semester and school year. Students spend their time typing papers and studying for finals which leads to anxiety and stress for many students. Black Student Achievement wanted to assist students in both proactively preventing and actively relieving the stress and anxiety of finals. A week of events was created which included Mind and Body Stress Relief Workshop, Color Your Stress Away, free massages and Panther kits. These events provided the boost students needed to be physically, mentally and psychologically prepared for finals. Black Student Achievement collaborated with the Counseling and Testing Center and Student Government Association.
The week kicked off with a Mind and Body Stress Relief Workshop hosted by the Counseling and Testing Center on Tuesday, April 19. This workshop provided students with techniques to help prevent and alleviate anxiety and help students prepare for their finals. On Wednesday, April 20, students were provided the opportunity to color their stress away and relive their childhood by coloring mandala coloring books while viewing old school cartoons. The week of events concluded on Thursday, April 21 with Black Student Achievement providing free massages and consultations for students in order to help feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle finals. Panther kits were distributed to students throughout the week with helpful supplies and snacks to assure students were equipped with what they needed for finals.
Throughout the month, Black Student Achievement offered additional resources for finals help, including computer labs, tutors, study space and the option to meet with a Student Development Specialist for last minute advice.
Black Student Achievement had an amazing time providing students the boost they needed for finals and are thankful for their co-sponsors and supporters. If you would like to stay updated on future programs and events, please visit Black Student Achievement and PIN.
